Rare bootleg of a great band at their peak.
I was a wee bit too young to be going to see the likes of the Swans in 1987, but managed it a couple of years later. Completely insane, although I was really really drunk - I remember being still steaming at school the next day after getting in at about 4am from Edinburgh on a Sunday night. Ah, them were the days.
I got this from DimeaDozen in FLAC format, and they dont like you mp3ing the stuff but let's be honest - a cassette from 1987 aint gonna lose too much by being converted at 320kbps so there you go.
Actually saw Michael Gira a couple of years ago supporting the Boredoms and to be honest it was a bit of a yawn-fest - not exactly up there with this madness, but it was about 20 years later so I suppose I can let the cunt off with it.
This bootleg? Fucking AMAZING - captures them at their most ferocious, according to the blurb that came with the download "audiences were collapsing and vomiting due to the extreme volume". Sounds good to me. There's a great bit right at the end when some guy staggers on stage and complains about the noise!
Aye, perfect listening before the Friday night of the year so far - Archie Bronson Outfit at King Tuts then Weatherall/Smagghe at the Sub Club. Chin chin, m'dears...

You got the blog bug again Mog?
I mp3 nearly everything I download from dime. It's more convenient for the ipod and car, obviously. Their don't-convert policy always struck me as a tad po-faced for a bunch of dudes who surreptitiously taped bands, yanno?
Agreed. It's all a bit wanky all that FLAC malarkey. I've always maintained that FLACs are for CUNTs.
Swiss Adam? Aye, it's like a fuckin disease...
Haven't played this yet but am anticipating a proper crunge-fest (yes, CRUNGE). I only saw Swans once, on the Holy Money tour (1986?), & they were insanely good. Better still, I taped it & still have it somewhere (there's one track from the same show on that Public Castration Is A Good Idea bootleg but my cassette sounds shitloads better for some reason, probably because my dictaphone was halfway up Gira's nose?). Thanks for sharing this anyway...
Great stuff, thanks. As I remember, Swans cancelled their gig at Glasgow Rooftops on the Children of God tour because they couldn't get their massive PA system up the stairs and they refused to use the house PA system.
You are marking Lord Sabre Day tomorrow, I trust?
Lord Sabre Day? we'll see...
Mog,
greeting from the southern hemisphere
long time no write anything, apologies, all settling back to normal now.
Have you heard Feel Good Now? CD of tunes recorded over that 1987 live tour? if not I'll rip it for you and drop somewhere. The sounds can only be described as bombastic.
Same them as a wee laddie and was, for one of the only 2 times in my life, genuine frightened...partly by their sound but more so by the audience.
(and I must rip that sweet sister ray double by the VU that I said I would)
word verification - peddynap.
hmm, suggestive of what a kiddy-fiddling priest would do after an afternoon's exertions.
Tommy - long time no hear indeed. Aye, I'll take that Feel Good Now thing - sounds like a winner.
The VU thing? Oh aye - I'd almost given up hope of that beauty. Did you get the 7" box thing I posted before Xmas? Worth a pop if you didnae.
Peddynap? Should be added to the English language if you ask me.
Cheers amigo...
