Peter Murphy w/ Nine Inch Nails - Joy Division Covers

Soundboard rips of an excellent Q101 Chicago Radio Session from 2006.

A timely posting of this for a few reasons: it is pretty much a year to the day that we went to see our final(?) NIN show down at Manchester; we're off to see Peter Murphy at the Classic Grand in a couple of weeks; and Peter Hook is insisting on playing Unknown Pleasures in full with a bunch of young boys at every festival going, after insisting that it would only happen once on the 30th anniversary. "It's what Ian would have wanted". Aye right, ya prick. After a brief moment of thinking that Mr Hook was actually OK, I recently had the misfortune of going to see him with Freebass at King Tuts. Yep - he's a total fud. What was I thinking?

Shame it's not Russ Abbot's Atmosphere but you can't have everything...

Love And Rockets - Resurrection Hex (Remixes By Deep Dish)

Remix 12" released 1998 on 'Red Ant Entertainment' records.

Love And Rockets? That would be Daniel Ash and David J from Bauhaus, along with David J's wee bruv Kevin. All remixed by Deep Dish (who I was going through a wee phase of at this point).

I was always amazed at the success Love And Rockets had in the USA, as they had fuck all here. I remember they even attempted a scary/comedy/novelty record in the UK called The Bubblemen Are Coming which I duly bought - it was pish though, as you'll realise if you clicked the link there.

What are the mixes like? Well, the A side's an epic dubby, smoky, hissy 12 minute journey with lots of sampled vocal whispers and a big ole bass hook that goes right through you. Despite the name of the mix, there's no samples of "Kick In The Eye" on B1, but instead another fab dub-house mix that goes easy on the vocals this time. B2 is one of those bonus beats/breaks things that I've just stuck on for completion - not much worth bothering about there.

This one goes out to Nolan Micron from the mighty Castles In Space blog, now with added Spinsters Rock. Welcome back to the planet, old son...

Bauhaus - Telegram Sam

Another Bauhaus 7". Another cover. This time from 1980.

A fine cover of the Marc Bolan classic, the original of which was my "mum & dad shagging song". Um, let me explain - know how everyone knows what was number one on the day they were born, and it's usually something pish? A mate once said that no no, what you should do is go back exactly 9 months before you were born and see what was number one then. I did, and this Bolan track was sitting pretty at the top of the charts.

Found out yesterday that Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy is playing a show in London next Sunday night, promising to play some new stuff (hmmm), and some Bauhaus classics. Grand - I'll be down there next weekend for the Spiritualized show the following night so will check that out - a nice wee Brucie bonus.

Not looking forward to tomorrow. As well as it being a Monday, I'll be suffering due to tonight's Pixies gig followed by Health at Optimo afterwards. The intention is to not get too fucked, leave straight after the band and definitely go to work tomorrow. Only snag is I've got to work a 12-hr stint and there's no getting out of it.

So - no posting tomorrow. See you on Tuesday...

Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust

This record changed my life.

As a young and impressionable 10 year old I first heard this (didn't buy it at the time), and it was my first introduction to the magic of David Bowie. A few years later I was buying up the Bauhaus catalogue and any covers they did made me go and seek out the original versions. This was quite handy, as a lot of the old gothy bands did great covers, so that led to stuff like The Stooges and The Velvet Underground. This 7" paved the way for a journey into the world of Brian Eno as well, courtesy of the the B-side, another great cover.

In recent years it ultimately inspired tattoo #1, and I'm still tempted to get the Bauhaus face done somewhere as well...
