A FUCKING INTENSE couple of tracks from Manuel and Clive, aka The Advent, this was limited to 1,000 and was never repressed. That'll be the pension fund sorted then. Oh - you can pick it up for a tenner on Discogs. Cheers, internet!

Excellent stuff on both sides, particularly the B-side, most rewarding when I initially bought it for aesthetics alone (I'm a sucker for a good vinyl gimmick). Should appeal to anyone who's into Labworks / hard acid techno. I've definitely heard both sides played out, most likely at Pure or Club 69.

Ideal for clearing out any post-weekend cobwebs that may be lurking around...

A1's a bit trancey, but don't be put off by the 'T' word - it's from 1993, waaay before it became a by-word for lowest-common-denominator day-glo '16 bars of drum roll before I burst' kinda shit.

The rest wouldn't sound out of place on an early Hardfloor EP - lots of HARD acid with some flange (yee-hah!), whooshing noises, hissing hi-hat, squelchy noises, you know the drill...

Steve Poindexter - The Remixes

"Work that, work that mutha fucker..."

I bought this for the Edge Of Motion mix of the classic track mentioned above, and was delighted with the other three remixes on the 12". DJAX went through a phase of getting old Chicago tracks mixed by European folks, and this is quite a line-up. Like A Tim cuts the sample down to "work...fuck...work" for a while - a nice sentiment indeed.

The two tracks on the B-side do away with any vocal and are both great wee old-skool tracks. Check out the backwards drum bits and great acid hook on B2...

Emmanuel Top - Lobotomie / Pulsions

The A-side is a great acid track that takes a while to build. When it does, it's well worth the wait. I remember being dead excited when I found this as I'd had the name Emmanuel Top floating round in my head ever since having one of those "what the fuck was THAT?" moments round at someone's flat. It gets completely nuts at about the 8min mark and doesn't let you go till the end. Lobotomy? Aye, it gets that way...

Well worth a punt on the B-side as well, a very energetic track that's not a million miles away from this track. Intense as hell!

Greyhawk - Boiled Acid EP

Nothing but DJAX today:

One of two records that Michiel Holtgreve (me neither) released under the Greyhawk alias for DJAX, this one does exactly what it says on the tin. Should appeal to any Ege Bam Yasi or old-skool DJAX fans. As with a lot of this shit, the B-side is better than the A-side, but there you go...

Dunno what was going on in 1993. At one point I was buying beautiful, melodic, graceful records like the Hardkiss one below, then I was buying nonsense like this! My brain must have been in a right old pickle, must have been *cough* something in the water...

Couldn't resist the purchase of this 10" when I saw and heard it, although needless to say I've not played it out on any occasion. Should appeal to a certain type of punter though - there's certainly a time and a place for this sort of madness.

Fly By Wire / Graphite - Last Voyage / New Beginning

After a shit day at work there's nothing I like more than to stick on some hard techno to clear away the stress and pain. Here's Dave Clarke(!) under a couple of different guises on his Magnetic North label from 1994.

Apart from a handful of decent tracks I never really understood what all the hype was all about. I remember one time hearing John Peel (who loved the man) refer to him as "the baron of techno". A subsequent Dave Clarke Essential Mix had that same Peel sample repeated every fucking five minutes or so. Cunt.

Dunno why I seem to be in 'hard acid' mode this week, but the Fly By Wire track is too much for Audacity, as it quit the first time I tried to rip it. A good companion to the Acid Air Raid track from below.

Solar Quest - Acid Air Raid

This is a completely bonkers acid track, which kinda does exactly what it says on the tin. There were four mixes of this (including a rather pointless ambient mix), but the pick o'the bunch was always the "George's All-Nighter Mix". All 12 mins of it. Fuck knows who George is but I bet he looks a bit haggard these days...

A red vinyl release on London's own Choci's Chewns, I bought this on my one and only visit to Choci's shop on a trip down there in the 90s (well I couldn't leave empty handed). Mental.

OK here we go with some more techno, an EP on the Labworks label 'Psycho Tribes' series from 1993. The two tracks on side A are fairly hard acid all the way, side B1 is a bit slower then it goes nuts on B2. Not for the faint hearted!

Manuel And Clive - Molecules

Here's a bit of hard acid for you, courtesy of Manuel and Clive. It's weird, just looked them up on Discogs and it turns out they only released two records and I've got both of them. Didn't realise the other one was them as it's an anonymous black & red clear vinyl thing that plays from the inside out. The magic of the internet!

Anyway back to this track, it's another one of those where the 'tune' is track B1 rather than the A-side (hence the wrong label on the graphic). It starts off like a fairly average acid track then there's a beautiful breakdown and pounding 2nd half. I seem to be using the word 'pounding' rather a lot in this blog, if only there was a techno thesauraus to hand...

Random XS - Give Your Body

Aciiiiieeed!

From the classic DJAX-Up-Beats label, this hails from 1992 and was a favourite at Pure in Edinburgh around that time. DJAX supposedly stood for DJs Against eXtasy. A Dutch label? Hmmm, hardly a vote-winner is it? Still managed to be a ridiculously consistent label which churned them out like nobody's business. At the standard £7.50 import price I couldn't afford too many of 'em, but this one was well worth it.
